More local families will benefit from next month’s Budget with funding for a new primary school at Scott Point, says Upper Harbour MP Paula Bennett.

“The Nor’West is a fast-growing and vibrant part of Auckland, and National is committed to ensuring all children in the area have the opportunity to do their very best at school. We’re providing the right resources and investment so children can succeed in today’s rapidly-changing, modern world,” Mrs Bennett says.

A total of $244 million will be invested in new schools, school expansions and additional classrooms around New Zealand. The Scott Point School will have capacity for 900 children for years 1 to 8, and is forecast to open in January 2018.

“It’s great to see the proceeds of the government’s share offer programme going into providing more education services for our local kids.

“This government has made the biggest investment ever in education, including the $359 million initiative to raise educational achievement by lifting the quality of teaching and leadership in our schools.

“Under National, kids are starting in education earlier, staying in school longer, and leaving better qualified.

“This new school will help Upper Harbour meet the demands of population growth on our school rolls, as well as deliver modern school environments that meet the needs of the 21st century,” says Mrs Bennett.
